Welcome Letter

Welcome to my blog, Finding Hope in a Fractured World.

Within this platform I plan to explore some of the questions that have intrigued me for decades and in doing so hope to shine a light into some of the darkest areas of our world and show how we are all interconnected, how the simple action of one person can profoundly affect another, and how caring for each other and our world isn’t as daunting as it sometimes feels. As an open-hearted optimist I have usually been able to look on the bright side, see the good in all people, and keep on smiling come what may. But in the past decade as I have experienced increasing darkness in my own life: parenting challenges, divorce, career change, the shifting sands of middle-age, and an awakening to some of the deepest suffering on the planet, my optimism has at times been limited and even severely challenged. Plunging into depression and pessimism has not felt like a viable option therefore, I have done what I know best: writing.

My goal for this blog is to explore the situations, issues,  and problems that interest, vex and trouble me and also the persons in the world who are initiating creative and innovative solutions in response to the challenges they find in their lives. I have a three-fold aim:

1) Describe and introduce to you places, topics, people, animals, eco-systems and more that you may have never heard of before in a way that is interesting enough that you are left wanting more and I will do my best to provide additional resources to that end.

2) Give voice to individuals and organizations about what they are doing, how they are doing it, and why it matters.  If any organization likes, they can make a pitch for how you can help them in action or donation, but this isn’t going to be my primary focus.

3) Instead, I want to provide clear and concise ways that one person (that would be you and me), can simply and easily make a difference in our home or community, which is, in my opinion, the most effective and best way to “save the world.”

  10. Sheesh! I thought I'd left a comment, but perhaps I sent you a message. I just saw "post your comment" at lower left of previous comments. Can you find me some hope that I will not fall hopelessly behind in technological knowledge?

  13. What a beautiful idea! For too long I have complained about the way we allow ourselves to be bombarded by dark news...negative media messages...overwhelmed by all that is so wrong with the world. This project offers some real relief and hope... a nd encoragement to "be the change you want to see". Thank you!
